"Once upon a time, I didn't believe in magic. But then, I discovered something. Magic is all around us. You don't even need to go looking for it. If you believe, magic will find you. And anything is possible." ― Kyra to the audience at the end of End of the Road: Part 2 — (audio)Listen (file info)

Kyra Glen is the daughter of the late Michko and the Tri-ling Lee Young. She is portrayed by Kimie Tsukakoshi.

Summary

In River City, Kyra lives alone with her stepfather, since her mom died three years ago. The star member of the Dragonflies basketball team (at her high school) is a competitive player who never gives up. She often hangs out with her two best friends, Peter and Mathilda. Her life is changed after an encounter with a magic book, and as a result, awakens her dormant powers of a Tri-ling (part-human, part-fairy, and part-elf). While wary of her new circumstances, she is learning to accept her newfound reality, and more mysterious powers develop as time goes on.

Biography

A Magical Mishap

Kyra is in a basketball tournament. The score was 33-34; her team losing by one point. She talks to her friends Peter and Mathilda about it.

While they get juice, Peter offers constructive criticism. Kyra and Mathilda make fun of him, saying that he's the guy who believes in far-fetched things as well as saying that he isn't a basketball player. She has a brief encounter with Darra, when he says he's going to leave the table the three were going to sit at.

Around 7-8 hours later, Kyra is singing in her room and playing her guitar. She looks at pictures with her friends, as well as her family. The smoke detector then goes off and Kyra rushes to the kitchen. She talks to her dad and then says she's going for a run.

She puts earbuds on before she goes for her night jog. As she jogs, she sees a floating book and is confused. She walks closer to it and reaches her hand out. As soon as she touches it with her fingers, she gets zapped and whooshes backward, and as a result, passes out.

She wakes up in her bedroom and sees Lily. She doesn't know why Lily is in her room nor does she know who Lily is. Kyra then threatens her before Lily turns small, and as Lily flies out the window, Kyra looks up at her flying in the sky.

Kyra falls back asleep. Her dad wakes up at one point in the morning to remind her about dog walking. As she is doing so, she and Darra look at each other, confused. Most likely, Darra was invisible to humans, and Darra didn't know how Kyra could see him. Kyra visits the area where the book incident happened and sees a burnt spot on the ground. At that moment, she heard one of the dogs, Doris, talking. Peter sees her. Kyra tries to tell him about the talking dog, but Peter doesn't hear Doris and thinks Kyra is making fun of him.

After dog walking, Kyra enters her room and sees Mathilda video-chatting her. Mathilda asks for a blue dress since it's her dad's birthday. Mathilda briefly makes fun of Kyra for her messy room. As she is looking around, Kyra's fingers glow, and is accidentally using her telekinesis to make a floral dress float. Lily and Imogen jump to Kyra's bedroom. They introduce themselves and Kyra stares at Imogen. They tell her about how magic is real and how the book Kyra touched may have affected her. When Lily tries to wipe Kyra's memory with fairy dust from her wand, it doesn't work. Kyra gets the glowing fingers again and accidentally jumped to a cold place where it is snowing.

Prize Giving Day

At class, Kyra was made aware that Prize Giving Day was to be hosted at the library at 3 o'clock on the following afternoon; as Maxwell sent notifications to parents magically, her father was not on his list. Kyra assumed that this meant the end of term before holidays, only to learn that magic never slept. Kyra was not sure what dress to wear for the party, so Lily offered to help her choose.

Back home, Kyra saw that her father was having a clear-out of stuff they had not used since her mother passed away. Noting that they always used to go out camping on her birthday, which would be the coming weekend, Kyra's father suggested that they go away for a couple of days, setting the time of departure for 4 PM the next day. Kyra realized that this would clash with Prize Giving Day, but was unable to tell her father, accepting his proposal.

In her room, Kyra was going through dresses with Lily when she asked about the timing of the ceremony, which was to last an hour before the after-party. She asked if she would be able to leave early, though Lily said that would not do. Kyra then received a call from Peter, who had heard from Ruksy and Kyra's father of tomorrow's respective events, advising Kyra to ditch the ceremony in favor of camping. That night, Kyra watched a recording of the last family trip with her father.

The following day, Kyra and the girls were going through dresses when the Professor addressed the students in advance of the ceremony, telling them that he was proud of them all. Later on, Kyra returned to her room, where Lily eventually produced a dress for her.

That afternoon, Kyra attended Prize Giving Day with the dress made for her by Lily. She was complimented on her look by Darra, who introduced her to his father, Jared Blackwell. Giving Kyra his thanks for saving Darra from the Eye of Horus, Jared had Darra get some punch to speak privately with Kyra. Jared said that Kyra had made quite an impression on his son Darra, adding that it was easy to confuse that with other feelings as he asserted that Darra was destined for bigger things before ostensibly wishing Kyra good luck as he coldly walked away. As the award ceremony progressed, Kyra sent a text message to Peter: "Be there soon. Keep Dad busy."

Kyra was preparing to leave the library when Sean presented the final award, a special award for Kyra, who Sean observed had exhibited an extraordinary control of magic. Receiving the award from Sean, Kyra voiced her honor and thanks to those in attendance. Kyra was congratulated by Ella, who also complimented her on her dress. On her way out, Kyra overheard Jared's protest, supported by Orla, regarding her award to Sean. Jared believed that Kyra did not belong in the Magical World, that Sean's award was an insult to all magical beings, while Orla added that giving the award made it seem as if Sean condoned the situation, with Sean feeling it better to treat her as one of them rather than make an enemy of her.

When Jared said there were other ways of dealing with her, Kyra interrupted them, asking Jared if he is afraid of her. Jared confirmed it, then noted that the most powerful being in the Magical World was a human-born teenage girl, with clear loyalties demonstrated by her prior test. Jared asked Kyra what she intended to do with her powers while Sean conceded that they made Kyra exceptionally powerful, with Orla adding that they were made uneasy by the fact that Kyra was the only person with Orb magic. Kyra, with her fellow Maxwell School students standing beside her, made it clear to the DMI representatives that her friends accepted her for who she was and that they already had her loyalty before storming off, returning to her bedroom in tears.

Later that night, Kyra caught up with her father, apologizing for losing track of time; as Kyra had come home late, he believed that she did not want to go out camping, which he understood. Back in her room, Kyra voiced her regret to Lily and Ruksy, who offered to help her make it up to him. Soon after, Kyra presented a camp and fire with strawberry marshmallows, her mother's favorite, to her father outside the house. Handed her guitar by her father, Kyra performed a song. ("Prize Day")

The Orb stolen

Within the library, the class was made aware of a Level 1 magical outbreak, a bunch of singing flowers. At Maxwell's urging, Kyra used her Orb magic to fix the outbreak, doing so without having to leave the library. Back home, Kyra did her homework before using magic to cook as she sang in her bedroom. Hearing her father return home, Kyra promptly stopped the magic.

The following day, Kyra woke up to see Lily, who had been waiting in her room. Having overheard her parents last night, Lily informed Kyra that the DMI had found a way to remove her Orb power and that they intended to do so. At the library, Kyra was regretfully informed by Maxwell that he had failed to convince Sean not to remove her Orb magic. Though Kyra was content to lose her Orb magic, Maxwell forewarned the possibility that the removal of Orb magic could take both her other magic and her memories of the Magical World with it, rendering her a normal human. Kyra was made aware that her magic was to be removed at 10 on the following morning at the DMI.

Later, in her room, Kyra was met by Ruksy, who had been told about her magic by Ruksy. Considering the possibility that she would lose her memory, Kyra entrusted Peter to help her remember the Magical World if needed. Knowing that his word alone would not convince her, Kyra had him record a video of her addressing herself in the future and speaking of the Magical World.

After Kyra saw Peter off, Lily entered the room, asking her to come to see Maxwell at the library. Arriving at the darkened library, it was soon revealed that the class had thrown Kyra a surprise party to say their goodbyes. Presented with a cake, Kyra used magic to blow out the candles. With heavy heart, Maxwell informed Kyra that Sean had decided to bring the removal of her magic forward to sunset today. Disheartened by the development, Kyra proceeded back home but not before a tearful farewell with Maxwell at the bookshop.

While back at her room, Kyra was met by Lily, who alerted her that something had come up regarding Imogen. Returning to the library, where Orla and Sean were present, Kyra learned from Maxwell that Imogen had supposedly stolen the Orb. Responding to an alert, Imogen arrived at the library, where she was accused of the theft. Though she protested her innocence, Imogen fled the library out of fear, with Orla making pursuit. As Sean noted, the DMI was unable to remove Kyra's magic with the Orb gone. Immediately after, Orla returned, claiming to have lost Imogen. Having Orla put out an alert, Sean instructed everyone to report if Imogen contacted them.

Returning to her bedroom, Kyra found Imogen, who insisted that she had not stolen the Orb while pleading with Kyra to help her find the real thief. ("Accused")

The Orb thief

Having been let in by Steve, Peter met Kyra in her room. Peter assumed that Kyra had had her magic removed and her memory with it, though Kyra quickly assured him that that removal had not happened yet, suggesting that the DMI had changed their mind. Kyra attempted to get Peter to leave too late as he found that someone was hiding in her room. Kyra called out Imogen, who made herself visible. Revealing to Imogen that Peter knew of magic, Kyra introduced the two. Explaining to Peter that Imogen was hiding under suspicion of stealing the Orb, Kyra had them go through the facts. Leaving Imogen in Peter's care, Kyra proceeded to speak with Maxwell at the library. Before leaving, Imogen entrusted Kyra not to tell anyone, including Darra, where she was lest whoever framed her were to force him to reveal her whereabouts.

Arriving at the library, Kyra reunited with her classmates while Maxwell warned her that people might start accusing her of stealing the Orb in order to stay. When Darra voiced concern for Imogen, Kyra was forced to keep her whereabouts secret while assuring him that she was okay. Following Maxwell into the shop, Kyra asked him about the incident, with Maxwell revealing that he did indeed see Imogen attack him and steal the Orb. At that moment, Sean and Orla entered the shop to question Maxwell, considering the possibility that he took it himself. Kyra protested Maxwell's innocence but was overruled by Orla, who told that it was not her concern.

At class, Darra confided in Kyra that he may have caused this by giving Imogen the idea to stop the DMI from taking Kyra away. Orla arrived to inform the students that investigations were continuing, quipping that Kyra had been given a reprieve. Turning suspicion towards Kyra, Orla noted that she could have taken the Orb without even needing to be in the library. Announcing that Professor Maxwell was stood down until his name was cleared, Orla revealed that the school was to be closed with all classes suspended until further notice.

Back at her room, Kyra informed Imogen and Peter of the development. Noting her father's profession, Peter asked Kyra how he would tackle the case. Kyra recalled that he said every crime had two main questions: who and why? Why was easily answered, as the Orb contained great power, so their attention was turned to who. Shortly after, Ruksy arrived in the room. Pointing out that Kyra had a connection to the Orb, Ruksy suggested that she sense its location. Attempting so, Kyra saw the Orb back in its container only to lose it, feeling that its location was somehow shielded. When Peter suggested that who Maxwell saw to be Imogen was not necessarily Imogen, Ruksy decided to check the library; having been shut down, Ruksy anticipated that they would not be disturbed.

Kyra and Imogen accompanied Ruksy to the library, where Ruksy checked the student records, hesitating to say why until she knew for sure. Hearing that they were not alone, Imogen covered Kyra and Ruksy before being caught by Orla. Through her Orb magic, Kyra saw that Imogen was in trouble and so dropped a book, distracting Orla in time to transport Imogen away as Ruksy found the relevant record. Back at Kyra's room, Ruksy revealed that the record supported her theory; before Kyra's magic was to be removed, Ruksy saw that Darra met Orla outside of Harvey's. Knowing that Darra about the removal, Ruksy believed that Orla was informed as such by Darra, with Kyra revealing to Peter that Orla was an elf working to keep magic secret. Ruksy believed that, after her meeting with Darra, Orla stole the Orb, recalling that Ladder had sustained a scorch mark after the incident and had grown scared of Orla. Finally, Ruksy revealed that Orla did her graduating thesis on shapeshifting.

As Ruksy realized that Orla diverted suspicion to Maxwell in order to get him out of the library, Kyra felt something happening to the Orb. Making a connection to the Orb, Kyra found that it was inside the library with Orla, now in Kyra's form. Jumping to the library with Imogen and Ruksy, Kyra found Orla had deceived Lily and Darra into infusing their fairy and elf magic respectively into the Orb. Too late to stop Orla, Kyra was drained of her magic as Imogen uncovered Orla, who proceeded to jump out of the library, taking the Orb with her. As she did, Kyra fell unconscious and was tended to by her friends. ("On the Case")

Lost Memories

While unconscious, Kyra was returned home and put to bed by Imogen and Lily, who she was unable to see. Awaking in her bedroom, Kyra was informed by her father that she had been asleep for ten hours. As it was Saturday, she was to take the dogs out for a walk. Before doing so, Kyra went for a run before bumping into Peter, who asked her about what happened the night before, when she jumped with Imogen and Ruksy, an elf and a fairy, into the library to deal with Orla. Having lost her memory, Kyra believed that elves and fairies had become the next subject of Peter's fantasies following aliens and the multiverse. Peter attempted to help her remember, recalling the Library and the time he was trapped in a book. Continuing her run, Kyra invited Peter to join her at Harvey's in an hour. Soon after, Kyra called Mathilda and asked if she was up to see a movie and go shopping, arranging to see her after Peter.

Kyra arrived at Harvey's, where Peter attempted to show her the message she had recorded earlier, only to be interrupted by Ruksy; as Kyra had lost her memory, she did not remember Ruksy. Speaking with Peter, Ruksy instructed him not to make Kyra remember lest she be put in danger. Acting on Ruksy's instruction, Peter claimed that the video was a "fake monster movie" as Kyra anticipated before she changed the subject to drinks.

Later, Kyra met with Mathilda, who informed her that Marcie and Kay, two of the Dragonflies best players, are changing schools at the end of the year. Checking her phone, Kyra was confused to see an image of herself and Mathilda with Lily and Imogen, whom she did not recognize. When asked, Mathilda recalled their sleepover, that Lily and Imogen were "kind of kooky, but nice when you get to know them". Kyra asked Mathilda how she knew them, with Mathilda recalling that they became friends as they were basketball followers. As Mathilda reminded Kyra, it was Peter's birthday in a few weeks, and so she took her somewhere to get him a present. As it turned out, that place was Maxwell's Bookshop.

Arriving at the bookshop, Kyra recognized it as the place which Peter talked about. Kyra stood by as Mathilda spoke with Maxwell before looking through comics that Peter would be interested in with her. Whilst browsing, Kyra overheard Maxwell speaking in the backroom with Lily, who she recognized from the image of the sleepover on her phone. As Mathilda called Maxwell to make her purchase, Kyra looked into the backroom to find Lily gone. Touching the wall, Kyra found that her hand was passing through it before recalling the image of herself walking through the wall. Promptly leaving the shop, Kyra was followed by Mathilda, who asked her what happened. Kyra explained to Mathilda that she had felt like she had been in the backroom before recalling her experience of touching the wall. Mathilda suggested that Kyra may have been suffering from a concussion, and could not answer when she asked if she was crazy. At that point, Kyra remembered that it was time for work.

Taking Doris for her walk, Kyra slowly began to remember hearing the dog speaking. After her flashback, Kyra could now hear Doris speaking to her in the present. Kyra was shocked to her Doris, who claimed that she had been ignoring her all day, address her by name. Following this, Kyra caught up with Peter while he was riding his bike. Recalling her strange experiences of that day, Kyra realized Peter knew something and asked him. Though Peter initially feigned ignorance, he soon admitted that Ruksy told not to tell her. Insisting she was not crazy, Kyra demanded that Peter immediately told her what he knew. ("End of the Road: Part 1")

Stopping Orla

After watching the pre-recorded message in her room, Kyra completely recovered her memory, though a lingering skepticism regarding the existence of magic remained briefly. At Peter's urging, Kyra found that her magic had returned along with her memory as she tested it. Kyra attempted to jump to the library but fell just short, ending up in Maxwell's Bookshop. There, she found Lily, Imogen, and Ruksy, revealing to them that her memories were back. As Kyra's friends explained, Orla had taken over the DMI and sealed herself in the library with Darra and the Orb. Recalling how they interrupted Orla when she was removing her Orb magic, Kyra suggested that her elf and fairy magic must have remained.

Shortly after, the holographic image of Orla was projected to all magical beings of River City. Announcing that magical beings would take their "rightful place in the world", Orla announced her intention to release magical objects from the library into River City in order to force the humans into submission in a "new era of magical supremacy". Realizing Orla's intent, Kyra decided that she had to be stopped. Though her friends were skeptical as to how this could be done, Kyra pointed out that they were trained to deal with magical outbreaks and that they had kept trying while coming up against big problems, refusing to let anything stop them. In any case, Kyra noted that they did not have a choice as there was no one else.

Kyra's first concern was breaking the barrier to the library. Though Lily suggested that Kyra could reach through the wall using Orb magic, Kyra made it clear that it was indeed gone as she tried using it earlier. Receiving a phone call from Peter, speaking from the city center, Kyra was made aware via a video link that Orla had unleashed the Eye of Horus, endangering numerous humans including her father, who, as a police officer, was present at the scene. Seeing her father caught in the grip of the Eye, Kyra jumped in to pull him out of harm's way while remaining invisible to the human populace. Accompanied by the others, Kyra was all the more intent to stop Orla. At that point, Ruksy got the idea that a human could penetrate Orla's barrier after seeing Peter record the Eye.

Bringing Peter into the bookshop, the girls had him wear Sir Zoltan's armour, which had the power to penetrate magical defenses. As Kyra planned, she and Ruksy would accompany Peter into the library while Lily and Imogen stood guard at the city center, waiting for Kyra's signal to storm in and take Orla down. Using her wand to enchant Peter's glasses, Ruksy revealed that she had broken a rule by allowing him to see magical beings, a method which Kyra was until then unaware of. As Peter found it hard to see through the armor, Kyra and Ruksy guided him into the wall. Once Peter passed through and broke the barrier, Kyra and Ruksy quickly followed. Shortly after, Orla pinned Kyra to the wall while disarming Ruksy with her wand.

Walking up to Kyra, Orla conceded that she was persistent but asserted that she was simply a human girl who had an accident. As Orla met her face to face, Kyra turned towards Ducky, the plastic duck which was still inside the library. Turning back to face Orla, Kyra slowly turned her magic fingers towards the duck as Orla asked her if she really thought that she could defeat her. Kyra retorted that she did not, that it was never going to be just her as she transported the duck to the center, giving Lily and Imogen the signal to join her. As soon as she spoke, Lily and Imogen entered the library. As Orla turned to face them, Kyra used the distraction to jump out of her grasp and grab the Orb. Before Orla could react, Lily and Imogen fused their fairy and elf magic respectively into the Orb, resulting in its magic being forcefully stripped from Orla and infused back into Kyra.

Near immediately, Darra pointed out the ankh to Kyra, who promptly returns it to the Eye of Horus, pacifying it. Rejoicing in their success, Kyra hugged Lily and Imogen. As Ruksy called out, Orla made one last attempt to seize the Orb, only to see it destroyed by Sir Zoltan's sword wielded by Professor Maxwell, who had arrived at the library with Sean, who had Orla taken away while terminating her position at the DMI.

Later that day, Kyra saw the report on the incident at the city center before returning home to see her father, who told what happened, that the "thing" swallowed his car before disappearing. While he was being sucked into it, he felt someone take my hand and transport me away, like I was being protected by a guardian angel. Feigning ignorance, Kyra observed that it was amazing. When her father asked if he was starting to sound like Peter, Kyra suggested that Peter was right and that there were a lot of things they did not understand. Soon after, Darra came by to compliment Kyra and to inform her that, since his father was shaken up about everything that happened with Orla, he would be going with him to Europe to be with his mother. Darra assured Kyra that he would just be going for the winter to try out his new snowboard. He suggestively observed that he would not see her until he got back unless Kyra happened to be in Europe. Kyra noted that she always wanted to learn how to snowboard.

Following the "recent distractions", Kyra returned to school where transformation assignments were due on Friday. Asking the Professor about her Orb magic, Kyra was informed that, as the Orb had been destroyed, there was no way to remove her magic and so Kyra was stuck with it along with her new company. At that point, Sean arrived to inform the class that Orla had been taken into custody, that the Magical World owed them a great debt, and that they should be very proud as he foresaw promising careers at the DMI. Until their graduation, they were to go back to there as their lives returned to normal. Kyra, however, asked how anything could be normal after what had happened, which saw as a result of the Magical World being kept secret from humans. Though she observed that the way Orla went about trying to change it was wrong, Kyra suggested that she had a point, to change the status quo of magical people having to live in secret and serve humans "even just a little?"

Convinced by Kyra, Sean accepted her proposal; a special team of magical beings and humans working together to deal with all magical outbreaks with all the DMI resources at their disposal. This team would be composed mostly of the Maxwell School students, with Kyra offering Peter a place, which he accepts on the condition that they get him a badge, which they agree. When Lily noted that the team should be given a name, Kyra suggested the Bureau of Magical Things, which her friends quickly took a liking to. ("End of the Road: Part 2")
